George,

My concern about Enterprise 2.0 is that it is a marketing buzzword and not defined in a consistent manner. As a result, organizations want to know more, and the carpet baggers arrive and sell a wide range of solutions that are really the foundation stones of unknown, uncosted challenges after the expert has returned to his / her lair. So, I wanted someone to say "group editing" and slip the marketing baloney. So I quack away here among the reeds in Harrods Creek.

There are a lot of sales analytics and sales metrics tools available, which is mainly centered on Saas Business intelligence. The above news is a good indication and can hope that the business analytics tools are going in the right direction.

Daria,

I am deeply suspicious of Boston and the companies with offices in that intellectual fantasy land. I know a tiny bit about Attivio, and you can find an interview with the founder of Attivio on Arnoldit.com in the Search Wizards Speak series. I also have written semi-acceptable articles about Attivio. But the only thing that makes me more nervous that Boston's intellectual fantasy land is a Web log. I don't even read this Web log. In fact, why are you reading the notes of an addled goose? Read the much better stuff from the third tier consulting firms faux experts. I'm 65 and over the hill.

Hi Stephen, do check out Andrew McAfee's blog. It a great source of information on Enterprise 2.0. In fact, as far as I know he was the one to invent the term.
Here's another blog that you might be interested in checking out http://www.wrike.com/projectmanagement It's written by Andrew Filev, who expresses his views on Enterprise 2.0 in various spheres of corporate life, particularly project management.
By the way, I really enjoyed your post. I'll point Andrew to it too.

Hi Stephen, while I'm generally as skeptical as you are about the whole 2.0 thing, I believe that Harvard Business School professor Andrew McAfee does a good on the Enterprise 2.0 concept.

Admittedly, he takes things from the business perspective so he doesn't have the technical breadth problem that you describe. His blog is here, check it out: http://blog.hbs.edu/faculty/amcafee/

The fun part of his work, to me, is that he's a pretty technical guy working on management of technology in a top business school. Too rarely, in my opinion, do b-schools do real work and real teaching in the management of technology.

Stephen, I know you're not a fan of SAP, but if you're interested in a substantive take on "Enterprise 2.0", you might appreciate this report from their 2007 International Research Forum: http://www.sap.com/about/company/research/irf/pdf/IRF2007_Book.pdf. It's not perfect, but it's much better than most of the drivel out there on the subject.
