It's a lot easier to talk about replacing TREX in an SAP application than it is to do it. The connector needed to tie into ALL of SAP's application data will be have to be pretty pervasive and complex in order to achieve its goal. Also, since much of the SAP data is fielded metadata (invoice numbers, customer ids, part numbers, bin numbers, etc...) you really need a good fielded search system to handle it. In my opinion, TREX has been custom built for that type of data and to be embedded within SAP applications, and thus won't be easy to displace unless SAP wants that to happen.

It's not to say that it can't be done, but it would be a very resource intensive effort to create this type of integration and I've seen no evidence outside of Sharepoint that Microsoft is interested in this level of connectivity with any other type of system or application, especially one it doesn't currently own.

Martin Griffies,

Ah, I knew only the defintion "immediate, occasion or purpose". Two thoughts: How does one come to know the colloquial meaning of "nonce"? And, I may like the word even more because of its Wilde-tinged edges.

Hi Stephen-
"Nonce" may be a nice word, but its more common meaning in the UK is "pedophile" or sexual offender. Just thought you ought to know.
