SharePoint and Silverlight Collaborate on Rich Media

May 11, 2011

The SharePoint web part platform can host rich media content.  If you want to learn how to make a rich media content on the web part, SharePoint Magazine explains how: “Silverlight in SharePoint – Basics of Hello World!” For this project, you will use Visual Studio 2010 to build a simple “hello” application. We found this passage significant:

In SharePoint 2010, we have an out of the box Silverlight web part that can host almost any Silverlight application. For now, we will utilize this built-in Web part and later in the series, we will create our own web part to host our applications.

Following the detailed and easy viewable screenshots and provided code, you will be able to create a Silverlight application with little to no problem.  Visual Studio 2010 should be the only tool you need, but if you want something more robust Microsoft Expression Blend will work as well.  After creating the application in one of these programs, you will upload it to the SharePoint web part. The author does a good job of providing the directions one needs. SharePoint Magazine promises more articles on this important topic.

If you don’t want to get involved with Silverlight, then you’ll be happy to know that  SurfRay’s software richly enhances the SharePoint user experience without requirement.
