Google Drive for Education: Idea Harvesting Possible?

October 1, 2014

I read “Google Unveils Drive for Education with Free, Unlimited Storage and Classroom Integration.” The idea seems benign. Help students. On the other hand, I had a thought strike me:

If Google has access to content from students and teachers, is it possible for Google to data mine the information to obtain ideas, insights, facts, and methods?

As Silicon Valley looks to young folks for programming expertise and start up ideas, if I had access to these data pools, I would consider ways to exploit the information stream.

Would Googlers think of this idea? Probably not.
