Oracle and Productivity
February 20, 2009
Oracle has release its “user productivity kit”. You can read Database Journal’s take on this here. What struck me is the choice of the product names. There is an Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK) 3.5. And, what I find amusing, an Oracle User Productivity Kit Pr0fessional (UPK Professional) 3.5. I did not know that “professionals” required a special “kit” to improve their productivity. The “user” kit suggests that these folks cannot achieve professional productivity. A trophy generation marketing person named these products, confident that there was a substantive difference between a “professional’s” and a mere “user’s” productivity. By the way, where is Oracle SES10g gone. Maybe that productivity kit should be deployed in the “professional” version across that Oracle unit?
