Solr Glitch Reported

August 19, 2010

Short honk: Solr, the open source search system, has some glitches that the standalone installer is locked into the server, unless you open it up. Besides this, other observations reported in “Standalone Solr 9.0.1 Woes” force to conclude that the Solr installer is not as robust as Verity’s. Good news for Autonomy and a view that will make the open source search community scramble. According to the write up, Solr works fine locally, but issues crop up on a more robust server installation, where Solr gives no indication of connection, and may not report errors. Stay tuned.

This doesn’t seem to be about Solr at all.

It seems to be entirely related to how cold fusion installs Solr.

(Solr doesn’t provide an installer – just a war file – so that’s the dirt tip off that this can’t really be a Solr issue)

Besides that being a Con Fusion 🙂 Lets write a post for every key tech issue at commercial products and enjoy the show.

Ah, headlines. A crash blossom, I believe, like http://www.crashblossoms.com/archives/170

A word or two is missing — an more accurate description of the problem would be — Standalone Solr _exposes ColdFusion_ 9.0.1 Woes.

There is, of course, no Solr 9.0.1 . And if anyone at Adobe Cold Fusion wants help with integrating Solr Search, we’ll be happy to take a call. Many, many other CMS’s have figured it out.

    Dear mr. S.E.Arnold.

To be honest I thought you knew Solr quite well by now, but this proves the opposite. I’d pull the post to avoid further embarrassment 🙂
